Marissa K. Shoji, M.D., is a Harvard-educated, board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and orbital surgeon at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery, including cosmetic eyelid, brow and facial procedures, as well as complex surgeries for periorbital skin cancer reconstruction, thyroid eye disease, tear duct disorders, eyelid malposition and orbital tumors.
Dr. Shoji graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in neurobiology from Harvard, where she also competed on the varsity cross-country and track teams. She earned her medical degree with honors from Harvard Medical School and completed her ophthalmology residency at Bascom Palmer. She then completed the ASOPRS oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery fellowship at UC San Diego.
Her work has earned numerous national and institutional awards for innovation, research, teaching and community service, including the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award, Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award, Lanna Cheng Innovation Award, Lee Family Community Service Award, and multiple teaching honors. A prolific researcher, Dr. Shoji has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and presented at national and international conferences.
